Welcome to Flippin!

The Flippin Chamber of Commerce wishes you a warm welcome and invites you to take a few moments to get to know our city.

This Month's Spotlight: Ol South Food Truck & Catering

We sat down with owners Margaret Ott and  Lacie Bettencourt to get their story on how they started their own business.

The name generated from Margaret’s husband and Lacie’s father Greg who had a trucking company named Ol South Trucking, “We thought Ol South just fit who we are and what we stand for.”  They laughed and said,  "It was more of a joke about getting the food trailer. You know the saying 'get a a food trailer, it will be fun!' Well that’s exactly what we did, and it has turned into so much more than we could have ever anticipated.  Five years ago what started as a hobby under a tent in the park selling burgers, fries, and pulled pork turned into catering for 250 people at a wedding reception. We never dreamed the food trailer or the catering business would take off the way it has with such success. The entire business has been a blessing. Our customers are the best, we strive to give each and everyone quality homestyle menu items at reasonable prices along with the best service we can offer."

"The menu differs from week to week, based on a lot of variables. The weather sometimes puts us out of commission, but try to offer a menu that will suit most all appetites. Fish Friday’s have become a huge hit, and our hand patted 1/2 pound burgers will put a smile on your face along with our homemade fry sauce. The menu currently offers hand cut fries, homemade desserts and sauces and they never charge extra for any of their sauces."

The Chamber was honored to name them 2024 Business of the Year. Ol South has recently been awarded Best Catering Company in 2023 & 2024 from the Baxter Bulletin’s Best of the Twin Lakes and 2024 Best Food Truck. Ol South organized the 1st Annual Memorial Fish Fry in honor of Flippin’s longtime firefighters Joe Williams and Joe Cantrall in May of this year. All of the proceeds from this event helped fund the Flippin Fireworks Festival on July 3rd, which they were both so passionate about.

The future of Ol South looks very bright they said. They plan to continue serving some of the best food around and stand by their integrity, quality of food, service, community and most of all their amazing customers.

Please like and follow them on their Facebook page to see menu items, location and times where they will be set up.

Thank you Margaret and Lacie for being a valued part of our Flippin Chamber and awesome community, but most of all sharing your vision of true southern hospitality.

Outdoor recreation highlights our way of life here in Flippin.

Located just minutes from the crystal-clear waters of Bull Shoals Lake and world-class trout fishing on the majestic White River, Flippin is also close to the Buffalo National River Park and Lake Norfork. Flippin truly is a great starting point to fish, fly-fish, float, water ski, swim, scuba dive, wade, gaze down into the waters or up into the hills that surround you. Hickey Park has a giant playground, a basketball court, soccer and baseball fields and a great walking trail that is beautiful and gets you back in touch with nature.

Take a stroll or a ride.

When you're ready to relax and unwind, take a leisurely stroll down the sidewalks in our historic downtown area or the paved park trail, get a haircut, handmade bread or stop in for authentic Tex-Mex. A short walk can also get you to the Old Flippin Jail, Hickey Park and WalMart.

The Chamber would like to take a moment and "Spotlight" one of our businesses and Chamber members- Blackbird Boutique. We recently sat down with Sarah to get her story on her new adventure. We encourage you to stop by and check out this amazing little boutique here in our hometown. We appreciate them being a part of our community and everything they do to help support it.

My name is Sarah Sample and I am the one some people call “the boutique lady.” I help run the Blackbird Boutique that is inside the Flippin Station along with The Pharmacy.

What made us decide to put in a gift store/boutique in Flippin?

My cousins, Lisa & Shane Gardner, were the owners of a pharmacy in our home town of Melbourne for many years. After selling that pharmacy and retiring in January of 2020, they decided somewhere in early 2021 that they actually weren’t quite ready to retire and wanted to put a pharmacy in around Marion County.

They asked me about some different locations they had looked at and I mentioned to them the old Sodie’s building right in the middle of Flippin. They came to look at it and were really impressed with the possibilities of such a terrific structure and location. They purchased the building and began the task of bringing it back to life.

While working on the building one day, Lisa told me she was wanting something else to go in with the pharmacy that would complement the business but also something unique that the community didn’t already have. She mentioned a gift store and asked if I would be interested in helping run it. I was moving to the area full-time late summer of that year so it worked out perfect for me. I knew nothing about running a store but was anxious to learn and excited to bring something to Flippin and Marion County that I hoped would be an asset.

The Pharmacy opened in February of 2022 and The Blackbird Boutique opened its doors the second week of September that year.

It’s been a fantastic experience for me. I’ve met so many beautiful people and developed many special friendships. Hopefully we have brought a little something extra to the community and a few extra smiles when they walk through the doors.

We are located at 109 North 1st street in Flippin, Arkansas.

Located just minutes from the crystal-clear waters of Bull Shoals Lake and world-class trout fishing on the majestic White River, Flippin is also close to the Buffalo National River Park and Lake Norfork. While Flippin has all the wonderful amenities a city should have, it still manages to maintain that much sought after, and ever more illusive, small hometown feeling. It's a wonderful place to raise a family and make friends that will last a life time. We look forward to doing business with you!

Sincerely,

The Members of the Flippin Chamber of Commerce
